JANET BLAIR
| Bio |

People tell me I have an angelic voice. Such a bummer to not be born Adele or Aretha Franklin, but, hey, if you ever need some Mozart, Janet Blair is your lady. : ) ...At least she was back in high school choir...
Little did I anticipate my path. It began with symphonic music and two degrees in oboe. (Listen for the classical instruments in my music.) I played professionally with the El Paso Symphony and the Las Cruces Symphony, when God rapidly opened (alongside some painfully shut) doors to songwriting. Now, I have fun digitally distorting the oboe/English Horn to imitate horns and even - heaven forbid - saxophones.
Matthew Odmark, of the Jars of Clay, has been my producer for my last two projects, which has been a fantastic collaboration at Gray Matters Studio in Nashville TN. For Over Under, Sara Groves consulted and Peter Katis (The National, Jonsi) mixed tracks. What a dream.
People compare my sound to Regina Spektor, Ingrid Michaelson, Ellie Holcomb, and Joanna Newsom.
Oh...and I play piano.
I started playing piano in first grade. It was an epic start. : ) Winning your first competition by playing a total of twelve notes is intense.
When I am not preventing my three young girls from destroying everything, I lead music for Resurrection San Diego.
I recently started a venture called SongPlease to write jingles for kiddos, church songs and other custom songs. If that might be something you are interested in, check it out here.
